George Washington Bottomstone was born in Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, December 29, 1839, the son of Christian & Clarissa Priscilla (Lemon) Bottomstone. In 1860, he was a teacher living in Halifax and stood 5' 6" tall with dark hair and dark eyes. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg September 3, 1861, mustered into federal service there October 17 as a private with Co. E,
9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and honorably discharged at term's end December 24, 1864.
He married Elspy Lyter April 6, 1865, in Halifax and fathered Lillian Edith (b. 03/27/66 in Jones County, Iowa), Charles Edwin (b. 12/21/67),
and Daisy Kate (b. 08/26/75).
