Author
Famous for his children books like, "Sitio de Pica-pau Amarelo."
-----------------------
Brazilian novelist, journalist and publisher. Born José Bento Renato Monteiro Lobato. Membber#6925792He was an important publisher of unpublished books and author of important translations. Following his precursor Figueiredo Pimentel ("Contos da Carochinha") of Brazilian children's literature, he was popularly known by the educational ensemble of his children's books, which constitutes approximately half of his literary output. The other half, consisting of tales (generally on Brazilian subjects), articles, critics, chronicles, prefaces, letters, books on the importance of iron (Iron, 1931) and oil (The Petroleum Scandal, 1936) [2] He wrote a single novel, The Black President, which did not reach the same popularity as his works for children, which among the most famous stand out are Reinações de Narizinho (1931), Pocitos de Pedrinho (1933) and El Picapau Amarelo (1939).

He was born in the city of Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo, in the year 1882. He graduated in Law and served as public prosecutor until becoming a farmer, after receiving inheritance left by his grandfather. Faced with a new way of life, Lobato began to publish his first short stories in newspapers and magazines, and later he collected a series of them in Urupês, his masterpiece as a writer. At a time when Brazilian books were published in Paris or Lisbon, Monteiro Lobato also became a publisher and began to publish books in Brazil. With this, he implemented a series of renovations in textbooks and children's books.

In 1918, Monteiro Lobato bought the Revista do Brasil and gave way to new talents, alongside famous people. He became, therefore, an intellectual engaged in the cause of nationalism, which devoted a fundamental concern, both in fiction, essay and pamphlet. A critic of customs, in which he did not lack the note of sarcasm and caricature, his work was a great blow of humanity and Brazilianism. In the hands of Monteiro Lobato, Revista do Brasil has prospered and he can set up an editorial company, always giving space to the novices and divulging works of modernist artists.
