SPRINGFIELD – Wayne H. Boone, 81, of Springfield died April 8, 2008, at St. John's Hospice after a short battle with colon cancer. He was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Athens, the son of Leona and Morris Boone. He married Mildred Knoles on Jan. 9, 1957. She preceded him in death, as did four brothers, Donald, Darrel, Billy and Bob, and his daughter-in-law, Joan Boone.

He is survived by four children, John Boone, Mary (husband, Jerry) Hammitt, Nancy (husband, John) Warren and Johnie Knoles all of Springfield; four brothers, Dean, Mike and Jim, all of Springfield and Morris "Bud" of Sherman; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was a wonderful father and grandfather. His family was very important to him. He loved to share his many stories of his childhood memories with his great-grandchildren.

He worked at Pillsbury Mill for 32 years as well as on a hog farm for his friend, John Pope, and at Stanley Plumbing.

Visitation will be held from 9 until the time of services at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Roseberry officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
