The son of Mary Antionette Destour "Dutour"
1801–1873 and Pierre "Peter" Plante 1800- 1875. Paul was born in Saint Anne, Quebec, Canada, and was named Napolean Paul LePlante. Prior to May 1847 the Pierre Le Plante Family moved to Grand Isle County Vermont. Once established in Vermont the majority of the family used the anglicized spelling and pronouncement of their given names and used Plant(e) as their surname. 05 Jul 1864 Paul enlisted in the Union Army, Company H, of the Vermont 1st Cavalry Regiment, and mustered out 09 Aug 1865. He married Mary A. Blair.On the 6 Jun 1900 Federal Census Mary stated that she had had 12 (Twelve) children, only 7 (seven)of whom were living at the time of that census. Those living in June of 1900 included, Mary Ellen Whitaker, Celina Herms, Sarah Mulberg, Nellie Hyden, Jennie Leonard, Henry Plant, and, Cordelia Lounsbury.

After Mary's death in 1909, Paul moved to Los Angeles where he lived with his daughter Celina Herms until his death from Lung Cancer in 1919. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery 2 July 1919.
