Elizabeth (Betsey) Clark Abbey, of Arrington VA died on Saturday May 20, 2017 at Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, VA after a battle with cancer. Born December 3, 1940 in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of Robert Joel Clark and Elizabeth Sharber Clark. Elizabeth moved to Pennsylvania very early in her life, attended Penn Hall and then Penn State, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English. She married James Robert Abbey, who had just received his Officer’s commission, and was a Naval wife for 22 years, with tours of duty in the US, Germany and Panama. After the death of her first husband in 2000, she met David Miller, and they have lived in Arrington, VA for 13 years. Upon moving to Nelson County she became a Master Gardener and later volunteered at the Nelson county SPCA Thrift Shop for many years. She is survived by David Miller, her daughters Robin Welch and Alyssa Abbey, and four grandchildren. The family gives a special thank you to the staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital and the nurses at Hospice of the Piedmont.
A visitation and service will be held at Wells-Sheffield Funeral Home, 828 Front St. Lovingston, VA, Thursday May 25, from 12 to 2 pm. The service will be at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth requested donations to the Nelson County SPCA, or Hospice of the Piedmont. Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston.
