Walid Ahmad, 41, was killed in a spray of bullets on the rooftop car park of Bankstown Central shopping centre. Ahmad's murder was believed to be in retaliation for the fatal shooting of Safwan Charbaji outside a Condell Park panel beater several weeks earlier.

The victim of today’s Banstown Centro shopping centre shooting is believed to be Walid “Wally” Ahmad, a Mr Big among Sydney’s middle eastern crime gangs who was on the run after a fatal shooting earlier this month.
Police were seeking to interview the convicted killer in relation to the shooting death of Safwan Charbaji in Sydney’s west earlier this month but would not be drawn on whether today’s shooting was ‘payback’ for that incident.
Safwan Charbaji, 32, died after he was shot in the chest after a shootout outside Ahmad’s A Team Smash Repairs business in Condell Park on April 9.
Another man Abdullah El Masri, 35, had been driven to hospital separately after the shooting. It is understood he was left there by a driver who fled the scene.
Ahmad, who was convicted of the 2002 killing of Mayez Dany, was at the smash repair business when an argument broke out between him and Charbaji.
Ahmad was jailed in 2005 after shooting dead Dany at a Greenacre wrecking yard in 2002.
At the time Ahmad was working as a bouncer at a King Cross nightclub owned by Hassan “Sam” Ibrahim, Fairfax media reported today.
Mr Danny had been incensed with Ahmad punching his nephew and breaking his jaw after refusing him entry into the DCM nightclub.
Ahmad later shot Mr Dany five times at a prearranged meeting at a Greenacre auto wreckers after an earlier truce between the two crumbled.
He was sentenced to a minimum of seven years jail for manslaughter and other assault-related offences.
