Conductor and Composer. Considered "one of the best known and ablest of American musicians" Dr. Hadley studied music under George W. Shadwick and Stephen A. Emery. He was a conductor or associate with the Seattle Symphony, San Francisco Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Manhattan Symphony and the Pennsylvania Orchestra of Philadelphia. Hadley was also a prolific composter, turning out over 150 songs and piano pieces, three concert overtures, four symphonies and many orchestral suites and miscellaneous works; most notably his oriental suite "Streets of Pekin" and his opera "Cleopatra's Night". Dr. Hadley was also one of the founders of the Berkshire Symphonic Festival; member of the American Society of Composters, Authors and Publishers; and also the Founder and Honorary President of the National Association for American Composers and Conductors. Dr. Hadley survived by his wife Inez Barbour Hadley and mother Mrs. Samuel Henry Hadley.
