Rick served in the United States Army for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He volunteered for three tours of duty in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat operations. Following his retirement from active duty he continued working for the Army in the civil service at Fort McPherson in Atlanta. In 2001, Rick retired with his wife Barbara and moved to St Augustine, where he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his growing family.
He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Barbara Boldt Cummins. He is the father of Caroline Elizabeth Cummins Rea, grandfather to Jacob Wallace and Emily Claire Rea of Princeton, Kentucky, and step-father of Daniel, Ronald, Thomas, Michael and Deborah Harris Turner. Nine other grandchildren lovingly call him Opa and one great-grandchild will call him Opa when she learns to talk.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully encourages you to make a donation to one of the many fine military organizations helping our veterans.
