John Braidwood is the grandson of Thomas Braidwood (b. 1715, d. 1806) from Scotland, United Kingdom. John came to America in circa 1810 first visited James Monroe, the President, whom he knew from the older days. James Monroe brought St. George Randolph, a Deaf cousin of the Bollings, to London's Braidwood Deaf Academy. Braidwood became one of the first known Deaf School Educators in Virginia at the Cobbs, Goochland County, Virginia with Col. William Bunn Bolling. He became a barkeeper at a tavern nearby after leaving Manchester Deaf School, the last school he taught with Rev. John Kirkpatrick in Manchester, Virginia from 1817 to 1818. He became a barkeeper in 1818 to 1820. Then he passed away circa October 24, 1820 according to the Masonic Lodge No. 14 report with named members who attended the "memorial service" for Braidwood. He was originally buried by the window at the first Masonic Lodge No. 14. Later, his body among the 6 bodies were moved to Maury Cemetery in 1887, before the building was destroyed circa 1910. The original site still has the Manchester School stone laid at the corner on the site. Picture is shown. (Information will be updated as soon as I find more information.)
