CUMBERLAND – Gerald K. Shaffer, 87, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

Gerald served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. He then worked for Kelly Springfield Tire Company, and eventually retired. After retirement, he and his wife started a surplus company.

He was a member of the EAA, Patmos Lodge No. 70, and the Roy Rogers Coffee Clutch.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vera Shaffer; a son, Mark Shaffer and wife Debra, of Round Rock, Texas; and a daughter, Denise Jaynes and husband Roger, of Jessup, Maryland.

According to his wishes, he was cremated with no public services. His remains will be spread at a favorite location.

Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. is assisting the family with the cremation arrangements.
