Luz Maria Vargas (or "Lucy" as she is better known by her family and friends) was born on November 19, 1942 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, to very proud parents, Andres Vargas and Dolores Leon Vargas.

During the late 1940's to early 1950's, Andres and Dolores migrated to New York City to find a better life for Luz Maria and her five siblings -- Luis Enrique (RIP), Radames (RIP), Dolores, Esther and William (RIP) -- and settled in the Longwood section of the Bronx (Eagle Avenue between East 163rd and East 161 Streets to be exact). As a child, Luz Maria was taught the importance of being a family, hard work and to cherish the love she shared with her parents, brothers and sisters.

In the early 1970's, Luz met and married Patricio Robayo, Sr. and several years later had two wonderful children Alejandro and Patricio, Jr. As she raised her children, she taught them the important things that she had learned as child – the importance of being a family, hard work and to cherish the love we have for one another for years to come.

In early 2006, tragedy struck the Robayo / Vargas Family when Luz was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer. After a long battle to beat her cancer, she passed away on February 2, 2007 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx with her family by her bedside.

Before Lucy's death, her final wish was to be buried with her father Andres Vargas, who died in December of 1969 and whom she loved very dearly.

As she enters the gates of heaven, Luz will join her father Andres Vargas, her mother Dolores Leon Vargas, her three brothers -- William, Radames and Luis Enrique -- and her two nephews William Vargas and Andres Vargas.

Luz Maria Vargas is survived by her dear husband, Patricio Robayo and her three wonderful children; George, Alejandro and Patricio, Jr.

We will miss her innocence, childish wit, warm laugh and gentlest heart.

Lucy was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend and we will all miss her very dearly. She was, and is still, loved by all of us.

Rest in eternal Peace and may God Bless you ALWAYS.
