Gerald L. Henry, age 77, of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Hospice & Community Care of Mt. Joy. He was the husband of Leonora "Lee" Smith Henry with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on July 12th.
He was born in Salisbury Township, son of the late Frank N. & Ella M. Spotts Henry. He graduated from the former Salisbury High School class of 1952 and then Scott High School class of 1953. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Ford New Holland retiring in 1991, Triangle Refrigeration and then for Frey-Lutz Corp., retiring in 1997. He was the treasurer for Salisbury Township Alumni Association. He enjoyed traveling, genealogy, attending his grandchildren's sporting events and helping his family in any way he could.
Surviving besides his wife are 4 children: Thomas P. husband of Cynthia Severson Henry of Richmond, VA, Jeanne M. wife of William Fisher of East Earl, Karen S. wife of Carey Neff of Lancaster, Richard A. husband of Julie Longenecker Henry of Williamsburg, VA; 5 grandchildren: Ali & Jackie Fisher, Abby & Trisha Baker and Andrew Henry; 4 siblings: Alma E. Barley of Richmond, VA, John C. husband of Virginia Rhoades Henry of Wilmington, DE, Clyde L. husband of Jane Coates Henry of Quarryville, Linda J. wife of Carl Krantz of Gap. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Norman W. & Robert E. Henry.
A life celebration service will take place from the Faith Community United Methodist Church, 165 Chester Street, Atglen, PA on Saturday, August 17th, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cindy Hall officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be a time to greet the family following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603. Arrangements by the Shivery Funeral Home, Christiana & Paradise.
