A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Anthony “Tony” Parrino at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with Rev. Stephen Brandow officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Pollock under the direction John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the funeral home, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the Kramer Chapel.
Anthony Bernard Parrino, 92, beloved husband of 66 years of Crystal McLean Parrino passed from this life on Sunday, March 19, 2017, peacefully in his home in Dry Prong. Tony was born March 21, 1924, in Cheneyville, Louisiana. He was a World War II veteran who proudly served as a combat medic in the 90th Infantry Division where he was awarded the bronze star for his heroic participation in the Normandy Invasion. Tony retired from the United States Postal Service after 29 years of never meeting a stranger on his mail route. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral where he served as an usher for 50 years. After retirement Tony was actively involved in the Hudson Creek Community where he helped establish the Hudson Creek Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered numerous hours at South Grant Elementary School. Along with enjoying his family, Tony also had a love for gardening and being able to share the fruits and vegetables of his labor.
He was the proud father of Tena Parrino and Nicholas “Nick” Parrino (Gloria) and honored to be called grandpa to Ree Buchanan (Jeremy), Kris Emrick, Kate Wells (Ricky), Tony Parrino (Sarah), Frank Parrino (Candi) and John Dollar (Erin) as well as, 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Pat Stevens (Van); and sisters- in-law, Violet and Janice; one brother-in-law, Tommy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Josephine Parrino; brothers, Peter, Sam, Carlo, Joseph, Morris and Nicholas, Jr; and sisters, Bessie, Josie, Mary, Marie, and Lucille.
The family would like to give special thanks to Tony’s caregivers Fonda, Lou Lou and Kim; and his All Saints Hospice caregivers, Abby and Ashley.
