SFC Vencen Ackerson, Korean War Veteran and Vietnam Veteran, native of Boynton, Muskogee Co. Oklahoma.

SFC Vencen Ackerson was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SFC Ackerson served our country until March 4th, 1969 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 39 years old and was married. It was reported that he was killed by a hostile exploding Booby Trap. He was born in Boynton, Muskogee Co. Oklahoma, on May 5th, 1930. His body was recovered. SFC Ackerson is on panel 30W, line 035 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for more than 20 years.

He is the husband of Mrs Rachel D. Ackerson, 1225 East Lafayette St, Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He is the father of four daughters, Bonita, Vanessa, Delois & Monica.Three sons also survive him, Vencen Jr & Victor of the home and Harold with the USN stationed in California. Four sisters and three brothers also survive him.

SFC Vencen Ackerson served as a Sergeant First Class with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded His Second Combat Infantryman's Badge, The Bronze Star Medal with 'V' Device for Valor and one Oak Leaf Cluster, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat wounds, The Army Good Conduct Medal(s), The National Defense Service Medal(s), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, The Korean Service Medal with One Device, The Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal Korea, Republic and the Korea War Service Medal.
