Annette Smith was the daughter of a cattle rancher in Michigan. She attended Michigan Agricultural College in Lansing, Michigan where she met her soon to be husband, Liberty Hyde Bailey who was another student. They were married in June 1883 and until her death a total of 55 years. She died nearly three years after her first born daughter died. The immediate family rest together in Lakeview Cemetery mausoleum, Liberty Hyde Bailey is said to have been the Architect/builder. This cemetery is close to Cornell University where they all spent so much time.
