Born in Rockingham, N.C., Mrs. Cox was a daughter of the late Martin Picklesimer and Nettie Medlin Picklesimer. She was a member of Roberts Presbyterian Church and a few of her numerous community involvements include: Purple Hear, V.F.W., the Soup Kitchen, and the Presbyterian Women's Association. Mrs. Cox served her country proudly as a veteran of the United States Army and as a wife of a retired officer in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include her son, Charles Lee Cox III and his wife, Cynthia, of Raleigh, N.C.; her daughters, Janis Lee Culverhouse of Rapid City, S.D., Nancy A. Sanford of Anderson, S.C., Elizabeth Jordan of Heber Springs and Susan Davis and her husband, James Alton, of Anderson, S.C.; her sister, Helen P. Smith of Anderson, S.C.; her brother-in-law, James "Cotton" Greenway of Anderson, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jeanette Harbuck, Irene Ivester, Mable Grant and Peggy Greenway.
The funeral services were held at Roberts Presbyterian Church on January 23 officiated by the Reverend Dale Rawlings. Interment followed at Roberts Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Campbell Patriots from the American Legion Post 184.
Everyone should have a mama like ours. She will truly be missed not only by us, but by the whole community. She inspired everyone she met. Go with God in peace to Heaven Mama, for now you are with Daddy, hand-in-hand. Your loving children.
