Brigadier General James Boggs commanded the 18th Brigade of the Virginia Militia, CSA. He was under the direct command of General Stonewall Jackson. His brigade saw action in the lower Shenandoah and South Branch Valleys in 1861 and 1862. The Pendleton County Militia and the 46th Virginia were regiments of this brigade. He was married to Margaret Kee in Pendleton County on June 24, 1823. Boggs returned to Franklin, WV due to failing health, and died there in January, 1862.
