OBITUARY Iron River Reporter September 21 1967 "Glen Maki Killed In Vietnam" with photo
Iron county's fourth fatality of the Vietnam War is Marine Cpl. Glen A. Maki, 18, son of Mrs. Bertha Maki and John Maki of Iron River.
Cpl. Maki, a demolitions specialist serving with the First Platoon, Company "C", First Engineers Battalion, of the First Marine Division, was on a mission, and was riding in a jeep when the vehicle struck and detonated a land mine.
Corporal Maki, who had enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Feb. 24, 1966, was assigned to Vietnam on Nov. 24, 1966, and had 79 days remaining of a year's combat tour.
Word of Corporal Maki's death was received Friday [Sept 15] evening, and was confirmed by the military officials Tuesday [Sept 19].
He was the second member of the family to die in combat in Vietnam. His brother-in-law, Marine Cpl. James Lohrey, was killed in Vietnam on March 20 of this year.
Corporal Maki was born October 24, 1948 in Crystal Falls and attended elementary school in Crystal Falls. He later moved to Iron River and attended the Iron River high school.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Stockero of Crystal Falls, Mrs. David (Barbara) Lohrey of Iron River, and Mrs. Robert (Sheila) Casagranda of Bellflower, Calif., and one brother Ronald Mikkola of Chino, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Monday [Sept 25] afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Iron River. The Rev. Clayton Parcels will officiate.
Friends may call at the Duvall Funeral Home after 3 Sunday [Sept 24] afternoon.

Funeral services for Cpl. Glen Maki of Iron River who was killed September 15, in Quang Nam, Vietnam were held Monday September 25 at 2 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clayton Parcels officiating.
Corporal Maki was 18 years of age and the son of Mr. John Maki and Mrs. Bertha Maki of Iron River.
Full military rites were accorded by the Marine Reserve Center of Green Bay. Officer-in-charge was Capt. M.E. Brown. The firing squad was Gy Sgt G.B. McDonald, Gy Sgt S.L. Bushman Jr.; S/Sgt A.D.R. Wilson; S/Sgt R.L. Richburg; S/Sgt O. Miley; Sgt R.J. DeBoth and Sgt J.L. Sly. S/Sgt G.N. Westcott and S/Sgt J.A. Sullivan were flag folders.
The pallbearers were 1st Sgt G.R. Ayers, S/Sgt J.A. Sullivan, Gy Sgt M.D. Boulet, S/Sgt G.H. Westcott, S/Sgt G. Patrick and S/Sgt R.D. Cain. Linda Schinderle and Myra DeBruyn were the buglers.
The Iron County Veterans Organizations also participated. Mrs. Paul Wilson played prelude and postlude organ music and Mr. Lionel Sleeman sang "Be Still, My Soul" and "Fairest Lord Jesus".
The Duvall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
