Barbara DeLong, 81, of Auburn passed away Monday, February 27, 2017, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born February 8, 1936, in Auburn to Paul and Jennie Bonfield.

She was a 1954 graduate of Auburn High School. She earned a bachelor of education degree from Ball State University and a master of education degree from Indiana University.

Barbara was a teacher for the Fort Wayne Community Schools for 38 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She also belonged to the church Book Club and History Committee.

Barbara enjoyed volunteering at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum, Curiosity Shop, and Eckhart Public Library. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the DeKalb County and Indiana Retired Teacher Associations.

She married Harold Amos DeLong on May 6, 2006 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn, and he survives in Auburn.

Also surviving are a special friends Leslie and Gary Hamman of Auburn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert DeLong of LaGrange, LeRoy and Jane DeLong of Auburn, Hugh and Ramonda DeLong of Albion, Paul and Sherry DeLong of Churubusco, Dave Lash of Kendallville, Loretta and Chuck Nesbitt of Avilla, and Diana Morse of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by parents; two brothers-in-law, Dale DeLong and Tom Morse; and two sisters-in-law, Caroline Lash and Janice DeLong.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 E. Seventh St.

Burial will take place in the Auburn Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Eckhart Public Library.
