Our dearest Pino, tragically taken away. Words cannot express the anguish we are feeling. We are heartbroken. You are dearly loved by all and we will forever miss your warmth, smile, generosity and your loving spirit. You will forever be in our hearts.

Beloved son of Anna and Alfredo. Cherished father of Alfredo, Alessio, Adriano and mother Joy. Adored brother of Alessandra and Massimo. Loving brother-in-law of Joseph and Daniela and loved uncle of Adelia, Lawrence, Massimo and Alessia.

Rest in Peace.

Joe Acquaro was a well-known figure in legal, police and media circles.
And also in the underworld.
The Melbourne gangland lawyer and owner of a popular cafe in Melbourne’s Lygon St was found dead in a targeted execution in Brunswick East early yesterday morning.
A garbage truck driver found his body on a footpath in St Phillip St at 3am.
Mr Acquaro has represented some of Melbourne’s most well-known crime figures and was reportedly aware of a $200,000 hit placed on him last year.
In the past he had represented many mafia clients but in recent times had ended the association with them.
The Age reported this came as a result of some sort of falling out — but whatever the reason, police last year warned him to take care.
His death today bears all the hallmarks of a professional hit. Gunned down in the dark by a single gunman as he walked towards his car with no known witnesses.
“He is certainly known to police but he is certainly not a convicted person. He is known to police through other associations,” Detective Inspector Michael Hughes told reporters at the scene.
He said Mr Acquaro had closed his gelato dessert bar Gelobar about 12.40am and was walking to his car when he was attacked.
“We have an early report that a witness has heard a car travelling down that street (St Phillip Street) away from Lygon St at reasonably high speed,” he said.
He urged anyone who had seen cars in the area prior to the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
As a lawyer, Mr Acquaro has previously represented convicted drug trafficker Francesco Madafferi and accused underworld figure Rocco Arico.
George Mirabella, a local business owner, had known Mr Acquaro for most of his life and was devastated by his death.
“I’m upset. My staff are crying in my office,” he told the Herald Sun.
He had no idea why the man he called “down to earth” would have been killed.
A receptionist at Acquaro Law this afternoon told news.com.au no one there was in a position to comment.
In 2009 it was reported Mr Acquaro was seen often at Liberal party fundraisers and he was heavily involved in the local Italian affairs, even serving as president of the local Italian Chamber of Commerce.
In this field he reportedly did a lot of good work, even helping people less fortunate with whatever problems they’d encountered.
He had business interests of his own, including the Gelobar he was shot outside of early today.
Part of his work, though, was allegedly for Mafia clients who were part of the “Honoured Society”.
A National Crime Authority report in the 1990s said the group was a combination of legitimate enterprises that did however have elements of criminal conspiracies.
He had a close association too with the Reggio Calabria Club, in Brunswick. A man who answered the phone there refused to comment this afternoon.
Just last week he appeared in court for Rocco Arico, who is charged with extortion and assault. In that hearing, Mr Acquaro told the Melbourne Magistrates Court Arico would appear in court again on Friday to apply for bail.
If the bail application does go ahead it will be without Mr Acquaro, whose three adult sons will now be planning his funeral.
