William George Jr., age 86, of Palestine, Texas died at Memorial Hermann Healthcare in Houston, Texas. Burial was in Roselawn Park in Palestine with arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. George was born March 15, 1920, in Palestine, the son of William George Sr. and Janie Kojack George.

Mr. George was a partner in the William George Produce Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 744th Tank Battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He served as police commissioner for four years and served on the Board of Directors at East Texas National Bank. He was a business and civic leader and was an avid fisherman and farmer.

Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June Haddad George in 1991; brothers, Mitchell George, Johnnie George, and Jesse George Sr.; and sister, Virginia Smith.

He is survived by daughter, Cathy George; son, David George and wife Pam; brothers, Murphy George, Frank George Sr. and wife Jeanette; sisters-in-law, Agnes George, Helen Hallman, Carol Floren, and Winnie Mack; granddaughters, Candice George, Mallory George, Kimberly George, and Hillary George.

Pallbearers will be Jesse George Jr., Jeffrey George, Randy George, Bill George, Frank George Jr., Edward Smith, Jason Elfarr, Jason Sayegh, Dr. Ronnie Elkouri, Jerry Fontaine, Moises M. Rameriz, David Lyke and Carlton Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Totah, Johnnie Elfarr, Dr. William Elfarr, William Pillows, Bill Knowles, Jerry Nowlin, Richard Farris and Joe Crutcher.

Condolence calls will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
