Spc. Bisson of Vista, Calif., joined the Army in December 2004, and was on his first tour in Iraq. He was deployed in October and was expected to return home in the fall of 2007. He moved to Vista as a toddler. Once there, he excelled in the Vista Unified School District as an honors student and Eagle Scout, and made many lasting friendships before graduating from Rancho Buena Vista High in 2003. It was also during his high school years, that he discovered a passion for sky diving that would eventually play out in his military service as a paratrooper. He bowled and played baseball, football and soccer, but that Boy Scouting became his passion. Jeff had earned the rank of Eagle Scout by the time he graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High School in 2003 with a 3.8 grade point average. Scouting led Jeff to edgy outdoor pursuits such as rock-climbing and, eventually, the sport that captured his fancy: skydiving. He loved nothing more than falling out of the sky and had completed about 300 jumps, 200 of them for sport. His love for travel and of skydiving drew him toward the Army, the service in which both his grandfathers had served. His parents tried to steer him in a different direction, but he was determined. He shed 100 pounds from his 275-pound frame so the Army would take him. He was 22.
