Death of Barnett Gress.
Barnett Gress, aged 93 (sic), one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this city died at the home, 69 Hanover street, yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock of general debility.
Mr. Gress was born in Stroudsburg, April 3, 1827 and moved to this city with his parents at the age of thirteen. He was a captain of a boat on the old Pennsylvania canal until it closed, after which he followed the occupation of farming. Despite his advanced years he had been active until a few weeks ago when he was taken ill.
Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Oren W. Barney and Mrs. C. H. Turner, also ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, two brothers, Charles of Indianapolis, Ind., and John of Wisconsin.
The funeral will be held from his home on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be private.
