Romeo "Romy" Tayson Ang died peacefully on February 7, 2017 in Oakland, CA at the age of 78, succumbing to a yearlong battle with cancer. Romy is survived by his wife, Feliciana Amos Ang of Oakland, CA; son, Eric Anthony Ang of Oakland, CA; daughter-in-law April Veneracion Ang; grandchildren Niall Anthony Ang and Jane Grace Ang; siblings, Roger Ang, Sr., Raul Ang, Rolando Ang, Lilia Ang Vargas, Norma Ang, Jose Ang, Jr., Roberto Ang and Rebecca Ang Tan. He is preceded in death by brother, Victor Ang, and daughter, Jane Grace Amos Ang. Romy was born on March 20, 1938 in Iloilo City, Philippines to Jose Ang, Sr. and Lagrimas Tayson Ang. He attended Cebu Institute of Technology for two years and then graduated from Jose Rizal College in 1965 with a Bachelor's degree in Commercial Science-Major in Accounting. After emigrating to New York City in 1972, Romy married Feliciana Amos, also an accountant, in 1973. While in New York in 1974, the couple welcomed their first child, Eric, into their home. Less than a year later, the family moved to National City, CA where Romy began working as an accountant for San Diego Housing and Urban Development. He would later become a Senior Accountant for San Diego Community College District. In 1980 Romy and Feliciana opened the Imperial Beach Oriental Store in Imperial Beach, CA. It was one of the first Filipino/Asian markets in San Diego County. A few years later Romy would open A's Import/Export, an Asian food distributorship. In 1978 Romy and Feliciana welcomed their daughter Jane. Tragically, Jane was killed in a car accident at the age of 12. Romy was an accomplished basketball player, playing guard for the Heavy Bombers of Jose Rizal College. He was a competitive individual who loved games and who was passionate about poker. He was a good and dedicated friend and had a laugh that could fill a room. Viewing services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5 pm to 9 pm, and Friday, February 17 from 4 pm to 9 pm. A funeral is scheduled on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. All events will be held at Glen Abbey in Bonita, CA, with a reception to follow at VIP Oriental Buffet at 542 Broadway in Chula Vista, CA. ts under the direction of Glen Abbey Mortuary, Bonita, CA.
