Bonnie Jo Carter passed away February 15, 2017 at her home in Claremore at 73 years. Born December 20, 1943 in Big Cabin, Bonnie was the daughter of Emory and Martha (Stanfill) Short.

She was a lifetime resident of Rogers County. Bonnie grew up around Big Cabin and went to school at Catale, making many enduring memories and friendships that would last her whole life. After the 10th grade she stopped attending school so that she could take care of her grandmother, Ms. Stanfill. Being a loving caretaker and Godly woman was a pattern that was set for the rest of her life. On November 23, 1962 she married Doyle Lee carter at her parents’ home, paying just $10 for her marriage license and wearing a wedding band paid for with many nights babysitting. Doyle and Bonnie made their home in Big Cabin and raised their family there.

Bonnie loved the Lord with all her heart and the two focuses of her life were her dear family and working in the church, helping in various ways and teaching at the Bible School. She was working at the church up until the week before she passed away. She was well known for her world famous peanut butter cookies and yeast rolls. She loved to sew and quilt and made hand quilted angels for all of her friends and family. Bonnie was a breast cancer survivor, recently celebrating 6 years being cancer free.

Surviving family members include her daughter: Jo and husband Chris of Chelsea; one son Alfred Doyle Carter and his wife, Nika, of Claremore; brothers: John Short of Big Cabin, Sam Short of Foyil; grandchildren: Wayne Mueller, Maranda Mueller, Drake Inman, Matthew Carter, Alexandra Carter, Timothy Carter; great-grandchildren: Dakota Hubbard, Cheyenne Mueller, Emma Pigeon, McKinley Mueller, Briar Mueller, and Spencer Inman; her country son: Tim Van Story and his children; Tristan, Hunter and Elexis; several nieces; nephews; her dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
