FRED W. TEELA

Fred W. Teela, 86, a former Havre resident and early settler in the area, died recently in Phoenix, Ariz., where he had made his home for the last several years. Mr. Teela was a conductor for the Great Northern Railway, beginning service in 1914, and for many years was chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a 65 year member of the United Transportation Union. He fought with the U.S. Marine Corps in France in World War I where he was wounded in action and was one of 12 survivors of the Battle of Belleau Wood. During World War II he was chairman of the Selective Service Board of Hill County and continued that service for many years afterwards. Mr. Teela was active in the affairs of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Havre and held an active membership of nearly 50 years. He was a member of Havre Lodge of A F and A M and the United Methodist Church. He is survived by sons, Robert D., Blaine, Wash . Thomas N., Los Alamitos, Calif.; and a daughter, Mrs T M Edwards, Phoenix, Ariz; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
