Norfolk - James Montgomery Crockett, Jr., passed away February 2, 2017 surrounded by family in his home. He was born in Massies Mill, Virginia on March 15, 1925 to the late James and Josephine Crockett, Sr. Jim spent the majority of his life in Norfolk but always called Nelson County home. He graduated from Fleetwood School in 1943 and entered the United States Navy during World War II. Upon discharge, he completed studies at Phillips Business College in Lynchburg, Virginia. He worked for Norfolk and Western Railway where he retired after 32 years of service.

Jim was a kind and gentle soul often referred to as a true "Southern Gentleman" who loved his family and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanne Crockett, his daughter Carol Hughes (Kent) of Mechanicsville, VA, grandson and namesake, Jamie Crockett Hughes (Lindsey) of Macungie, PA and granddaughter, Kristen Leigh Hughes of Chesterfield, VA. He was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Declan, Farrah, and Emma.

A graveside service with Military Honors by American Legion Post 16 will be held 12 noon on Monday, February 6, 2017 in Jonesboro Cemetery in Roseland, Virginia by Pastor Dave Huffer.
