James Manley Williams was born on February 4, 1841, in Lawrence, Kentucky, his father, Noah Williams, was 31 and his mother, Susannah [Jones] Williams, was 30. He married Nancy Ann Webb Pratt Williams on August 2, 1861, in Johnson, Kentucky. They had nine children in 24 years. He died on October 22, 1915, in Johnson, Kentucky, at the age of 74, and was buried in Flat Gap, Kentucky.
