Emma Louise Dettwiller, 92 of McDermott, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born July 14, 1924, in Otway, daughter of the late Joseph and Dixie Case Koenig. On May 21, 1945, Emma was united in marriage to Joseph Dettwiller who preceded her in death on September 14, 1986. Surviving are three sons, Donald Dettwiller of McDermott, Ohio, Daniel Dettwiller of Wilmington, Ohio, Larry Eichenlaub of Hamilton, Montana; a daughter, Rebecca Shepherd of Piketon, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Margaret Prose of Hillview and Margaret’s husband Charlie of McDermott, Ohio and Edith Montavon of Hillview as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dettwiller of Hampton, Virginia, five brothers, Frank, Henry, Joseph, Jr., Herbert and James Koenig and a sister, Stella Eichenlaub.

Emma ran the Shawnee Green House on the family farm, was a retired Postal clerk and rural mail carrier, and owned and operated a grocery store at Rushtown. Emma was a life member and Choir member and very much a part of all the activities of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Otway. The staff and residents of Hillview made the past year and a half a truly blessed experience for Emma. She never met a stranger, was always the life of the party and never turned anyone away who may have been in need of anything. Emma was truly a very generous and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father David Young officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Cemetery, McDermott, Ohio. Friends may call at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Wednesday. A rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
