Rare is the person who can light up a room just by walking into it. De'Andre Mayes was such a person, and though he was only here for 28 years, he made the lives of all who knew him a bit brighter just by putting on a smile.

He was born February 22, 1988 to Rhonda Mayes. Growing up in Richardson, De'Andre made tons of friends going to A-kon and participating in Yu-Gi-Oh competitions. His friends gathered with him at Jack-in-the-Box to play Yu-Gi-Oh weekly, and he often went with them to conventions in his samurai gear with his prized katana. As well as being a devoted Yu-Gi-Oh fan, De'Andre was also a huge Beyblade fan, and served as chairman of the Texas Beyblade League.

When he wasn't making his friends crack up with his mischievous facial expressions and owning them at card games, De'Andre was a top manager at Tom Thumb, and later at Domino's Pizza. Everyone he worked with at both places quickly became a friend, as he often had dinner and karaoke with coworkers and offered them help whenever they asked. He was the kind of friend everyone wishes they had, willing to lug heavy furniture up the stairs for the price of a cheeseburger.

His greatest loves were his brother and sister, Nicholas and Laila, whom he doted on constantly and shared his interests with. They often watched cartoons together, and he was teaching them how to play the games he loved so much.

He was a big teddy bear who gave great hugs. He was a kind heart who would do anything for his neighbors. He is much loved and much missed, but those of us who knew him will never forget the sunshine he brought into our lives.
