Cecil Robert Dupree, 78 years, of Peebles, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Ohio Veterans Home, in Georgetown, Ohio.

Cecil was born in Calhoun, Georgia on September 9, 1938, the son of the late Silas Alvin Dupree and Glenna Beatrice Mealor Dupree.

Cecil attended high school in Calhoun, Georgia, until he joined the USMC. He retired from service in the U.S. Marine Corps, after serving two tours in Viet Nam. After his military career, Cecil worked at a variety of jobs, including as a timing engineer at Tillotson Carburetor, in a supervisory position at both a paint manufacturing plant and Good Year, at Dravo Lime Company, and as a car salesman. A born-again Christian, Cecil attended the Burns Chapel Church. Cecil spent much time involved in caring for foster children, and raising money to help at Christmas-time, at the Children’s Home.

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Shoemaker Dupree, whom he married on November 19, 1971; his son, Chad Dupree; an infant child; and a sister, Patsy Ellen Wilczynski Johnson, of Armuchee, Georgia. He is survived by five daughters, Cynthia (Jim) Souder, of Green Lane, Pennsylvania; Melanie (Ed) Henning, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Kelly Sinclair, of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Elizabeth (Stanley) Edwards, of Calhoun, Georgia; and Cindy Dupree, of West Union; as well as one brother, Doyle (Bobby) Edward (Patricia) Dupree, of Bellingham, Washington; and two sisters, Ann (Ellis {Dec’d}) Kirk, of Toledo, and Sofia Linda (J.R.) Watkins, of Ringgold, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles, with burial to follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery, with Dave Hopkins officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 11:00 until 1:00 Friday at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Burns Chapel Church, in care of Marlene Foster, 3111 Hackleshin Road, Peebles, Ohio 45660.
