Son of Charles T. and Martha T. Eakins; born December 14, 1900 at Bourbon, Marshall County, Indiana. Student. Enlisted in U.S. Navy on January 13, 1917 at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Illinois under the name of "Frank Moffett." Transferred to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Served on board the MINNESOTA, KANSAS, SOLACE and OHIO. Died August 27, 1917 on board the Hospital Ship SOLACE during operation for acute appendicitis. Buried in Park Cemetery, Marshall County, Indiana. Died at age 16 years, 8 months, 13 days. Time in service: 7 months, 15 days.
