He was the middle child of three. As a young man, William attended the University of Utah, where he was a business student. William was also a member of the Lambda Delta Sigma fraternity.
He later joined the United States Army in December 1950 and was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment. He was stationed in Japan and later Korea.
William was killed in action during the Korean War, after serving for 16 months.
