Mrs. Ethel D. Ross, 85, formerly, of 933 Louise Ave., died Sunday afternoon at Denver Nursing Home, Denver, after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of James H. Ross, who was mayor of Lancaster from 1934-1938. He died in 1963.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Mary E. Boyd Dietrich.
A graduate of Stevens High School, she was an active member of the Unitarian Church of Lancaster for a number of years.
She was a former member of Lancaster Iris Club. A well-known contralto, Mrs. Ross was active in many musical groups.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine, wife of William T. Lightner, Tacoma, Md.; a son, Garvin R. Ross, Denver; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Moffit, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Mrs. Ilda D. Kincaid, Syracuse, N.Y.
