Son of Enoch Giles (1798-1864) and Martha Catherine Bishop (1794-1884) of Fayette County, Georgia, formerly of Chester County, South Carolina.

Married Elizabeth A. Brooks on 22 November 1848 in Fayette County, Georgia.

Married Mary Jane Ragland Potter Jackson Ennis on 17 April 1904

Jesse served during the Civil War on the side of the Union. He enlisted as a Private, in Company G, of the 145 Indiana Infantry. His rank out was Sergeant.

UNION INDIANA VOLUNTEERS: 145th Regiment, Indiana Infantry:

Organized at Indianapolis, Indiana, and mustered in February 16, 1865. Moved to Nashville, Tennessee, February 18-21; thence to Chattanooga, Tennessee, February 22-23, and to Dalton, Georgia, February 23.

Skirmishes: Spring Place February 27 and April 20. On Railroad Guard duty at Dalton, Marietta and Cuthbert, Georgia., till January, 1866.

Skirmish near Tunnel Hill March 3, 1865 (Detachment). Mustered out January 21, 1866.

Lost during service: 70 Enlisted men by disease.
