Robert was the son of William B. and Mary M. Taylor, per the US Census of Illinois 1850/1860.

He married Matilda Malinda Turner on 31 March 1872 at Grand Tower TWP, Jackson County, Illinois. They came to Texas some time after their son Alva Lee was born in 1879 in Illinois. Robert, Jr., was born in Fannin County, Texas in 1883. They settled in the Fords Academy Community of Lamar County and lived out his life there. He married again after his wife, Matilda died to a Mrs. Mattie Rich on 3 January 1917 in Lamar County, Texas..

FUNERAL OF R. E. TAYLOR, Sr. IS HELD 7 March 1935 - Robert Emmitt Taylor who died Friday, 6th day of March, at his home about nine miles northwest of Paris, was buried Saturday afternoon at Prairie Ridge Cemetery, after services conducted at his home by R. E. Hazelton.

Six grandsons, Lawrence L. Taylor, Roy R. Taylor, Albert Lee Taylor, Marion M. Taylor, Goldman C. Taylor and Samuel O. Taylor were pallbearers.

Mr. Taylor, born 12 Sept 1854 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, moved from Jackson County, Illinois to Texas 51 years ago, (abt 1883) and had lived in Lamar County 48 years. He had been a member of the Church Of Christ since young manhood. His widow, Mrs. Mattie Taylor, two sons, Alva Lee and Robert Emmitt, Jr. survive, besides 26 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Matilda Malinda Turner Taylor and a son and daughter, Oscar A. Taylor and Lucy Alice Taylor Sturgeon. Obit taken from Paris News.

DEATH NOTE: He died of pheaumine baights, also senility. Informant was Mrs. Mattie Rich Taylor.

It is known now that Burnice Matilda Taylor Cook inherited 1/5th. of Grandpa's estate when he died. (She was the daughter of John Hada Taylor, his oldest son.) John H. Taylor, who preceded him in death between 1900-1910.
