Melvin Ray Irwin, 88, of Springfield, died on Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born April 15, 1928 in Salisbury to Melton and Sadie Jacoby Irwin. He married Billie on December 14, 1968 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Melvin Dale Irwin and nine brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife, Billie; two daughters, Jeanine (Jack) Ferry of California and Brenda (Mike) Jaffie of Davenport, IA.

Melvin was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and retired from Pillsbury after 40 years of service. Melvin was a member of the Ansar Shrine.

Private burial was held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
