Susie Nowels
Mrs. Susie B. Nowels, 85, mother of Virgil Brantley, 1354 N. Monroe Dr., died Thursday at 5 p.m. at Hospitality Home East, where she had been a resident since November, 1973. She had been in failing health since last September.
For many years, Mrs. Nowels operated the Nowels Rest Home at Hicksville, where she made her home until her retirement in January, last year.
Preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carl Hilbert of Three Rivers, Mich. and Mrs Forrest Nusbaum of Elkhart, Ind.; another son, Elmer Brantley of San Lorenzo, Calif., and by several grandchildren, . . . .
Services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Perkins and Rule Funeral Home, Hicksville, with visitation there after 2 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Nowels was a member of First Methodist Church, Hicksville.
[Susan was first married to Lee Pryor Brantley. She was the daughter of Marion and Sarah Tartar. She and her husband Lee adopted her brother William's twin daughters after the death of his first wife. Those daughters were Flora Hilbert and Florence "Flossie" Smith.]
