Lila Bame Breidford
Born Dec 5, 1913 in Olds, Alberta. Passed away July 21, 2001 at her home. Daughter of Nicholas and Emily Bame (Whiteley). She was the 4th of 5 children. Her father died when she was four years old. At the age of six, her mother moved the family to Ferndale where they farmed. In 1936 she married Leonard Breidford of Blaine in the living room of their current home. During WWII Lila and Leonard worked at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. After the war they settled back on their small farm on the Loomis Trail Rd. where they raised their family. For many years Lila worked as a cookwaitress at local restaurants including "Kings Inn" in Blaine.

A woman with a zest for life, she loved traveling and exploring with her family. She was intimately connected to the earth through her garden. Every year she grew an abundance of vegetables and beautiful flowers. An accomplished seamstress, she made clothes, quilts and reupholstered furniture. Over the years she made and decorated many wedding and anniversary cakes for family and friends. In her younger days it was not uncommon to find her on the tractor disking or haying.

Lila was always a gracious hostess. She welcomed all visitors with a meal or coffee and homemade pastry. She often prepared and served huge holiday dinners in her small kitchen. You could read a thousand books and not learn as much as you could from Lila. She filled her home and life with love an nurturing. We will miss and always love her.

Lila is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Leonard Breidford. She was preceded in death by her brothers Roy, John and Harold Bame. She is also survived by her brother Clarence Bame, her daughter Diana Christianson, her son Wayne Breidford, and grandchildren Heather, Robin and David Christianson, and Elias and Jelani Breidford. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mt. Baker Kidney Center, Whatcom Hospice or the Blaine Free Church Unitarian.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Sunday July 29 at the Free Church Unitarian in Blaine. Those who wish may also join the family for a celebration of Lila's life, at her daughter's home, at 2 pm.
