Fred Daniel Gardner, 73, of Quitman, died Thursday, October 6, 2005. He was born in Thayer, Missouri, in Oregon County, to the late Clifton and Elise (Cargile) Gardner on November 23, 1931.

Educated in both Arkansas and Missouri, Mr. Gardner was a graduate of Alton High School in Alton, Missouri. He spent two years in the United States Army serving in Korea, and he was a lifetime member of the Rice Young V.F.W. Post #7514.

Mr. Gardner was employed for twenty-three years with Frisco Railroad and five years as an over the road truck driver, owner and operator. He was a member of Masonic Lodges Holland #158, Choctaw #617, Wileys Cove #524, Pleasant Grove #380, and Calf Creek #426. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Cadron Chapter #581 and dual membership with Morning Star #633. Mr. Gardner served as a member of the Quitman City Council. He was a lifetime member of the Rice Young V.F.W. Post #7514. He attended Higden Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; sister, Noble Jean Beene, both of Quitman; sons, Billie Gardner of Thayer, Missouri, and Danny Gardner of D'Iberville, Mississippi; stepchildren, Ted Crenshaw and Sherri Friesen, both of Quitman step-grandchildren, Jason Clark and wife, Cecely, Emily Crenshaw, Lance Friesen, Jesse and Sadie Gardner, Casey and MaKenzie Gardner. Mr. Gardner is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Quitman. Pallbearers will be Masonic brothers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
