Magee retiree enjoyed going to sporting events
Betty (Johnson) Slusser, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Dec. 12, 2016. She was a resident of Provident Village, Atlanta, Ga.
Betty was born Sunday, Aug. 7, 1927, in Main Township, the daughter of the late Oscar S. and Mary H. (Houser) Johnson. She attended Main Township schools and grew up on the family farm.
She worked at Magee Industries before her retirement. She resided in Main Township most of her life before moving to Reading with her daughter, Karen, and son???in???law, Scott. She then moved to Atlanta, Ga., two years ago.
Betty married the love of her life, the late Paul D. Slusser, and shared almost 50 years of marriage. They grew up less than half a mile from each other. Together, Betty and Paul enjoyed traveling to Penn State football games and taking trips to Las Vegas and Canada. They also loved attending their grandsons’ sporting events whenever possible. Betty continued to be their biggest fan, even after Paul’s death.
Betty was a member of Emanuel Reformed Church in Mainville.
Survivors include her two daughters: Connie D. Slusser of Denver, Colo., and Karen S. (Slusser) Walker and husband, Scott, of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons: Aaron P. Walker and fiancée, Bridget Clemens of Philadelphia, and Adam S. Walker of Redding, Calif.; two brothers: Edward (Dawn) Johnson of Shalimar, Fla., and Robert (Sandra) Johnson of Grantville, Pa.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Emanuel Reformed Church of Mainville.
Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with her pastor, Bradley Breisch, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Emanuel Reformed Cemetery.
