He was born in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 26, 1941, the son of the late Adrian DeVord and Lou Ellen (Tolbert) Archer.
Gerald served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and graduated from the University of Akron, receiving his bachelor's degree in AA Criminal Justice. He was a deputy sheriff in Summit County and a police officer in the city of Cuyahoga Falls, where he organized the Law Enforcement Explorer Program. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #187 (Star Lodge) Cuyahoga Falls, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron and the VFW #9094 of Hillsboro. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and reading his newspaper.
Gerald is survived by his wife; three sons; three grandchildren:; a brother, Richard Lee Archer of Charlotte, N.C.; and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded by two brothers, Ronald David Archer and Allen Douglas Archer; and a sister, Loretta Ellen Baker.
A Masonic service will start at 1 p.m., followed by funeral services, on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Auburn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home.
