An Oberleutnant and Beobachter [Observer] of the Stab [staff flight] of Kampgeschwader 2 he died when on a mission against Hull after his aircraft (Do17Z-2; wn:4248; U5+DA) was attacked by a Bristol Beaufighter of 29 Squadron RAF (crewed by Flying Officer John Braham and Sergeant Ross) and crashed into the sea off the coast by Skegness. The body of the Bordfunker [Wireless Operator] Feldwebel Heinz Genähr was washed ashore on 11 June 1941 but those of Fleugzeugführer [Pilot] Feldwebel Brinker Rücker and Bordmechaniker [Flight Engineer] Leutnant Benno Meyer were never recovered.
