May 31, 1931 - "Central Islip, May 30 - The Rev. Francis P. Ferme, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ferme, of Suffolk Ave., who was ordained to the priesthood in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Manhattan, today will celebrate his first mass tomorrow at the Church of St. John of God, this village. Father Ferme began his studies for the priesthood at Cathedral College, Manhattan, after which he entered St. Joseph's Seminary at Dunwoodie, N.Y. He studied there for six years. He was born in New York City during the Spanish-American War, and with his family moved here six years ago. He has a brother, Anthony, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Popo, and Mrs. Anna Marabelle, all of Central Islip. A reception will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon."


In 1950, Francis P. Ferme, aged 50, a pastor (chaplain) of a Catholic Church, was living in Yonkers, Westchester, New York, with Rev. Francis Esposito, aged 38, assistant pastor, and housekeeper, Mary Mian, aged 34, widowed.


Obituary - Mass was to be said today for Msgr. Francis Ferme, former pastor of Yonkers parish, and for the last 13 years, a Central Islip, L.I. resident. Ferme, 84, died of kidney failure in Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, L.I. Wednesday. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Ferme attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers and was ordained in 1931. He was pastor of St. Anne's Church in Yonkers from 1947 until he retired in 1971. During his tenure, he built St. Anne's from the small mission to a large parish and established the St. Anne's Parochial School, according to an official of the Diocese of New York. In 1960, Ferme was elevated to monsignor by Francis Cardinal Spellman. Mr. Ferme is survived by his brother, Joseph, of Central Islip. Mass, 10 a.m. today, in St. Anne's Church, Yonkers, with Archbishop John O'Connor officiating. Burial, St. John of God Cemetery, Central Islip.
