Kenneth L. Whitmire, age 86, was born April 21, 1930 in Bernice, Oklahoma. He passed away November 19, 2016.

Ken attended Naches Valley High School and the University of Washington. He graduated from the US Naval School of Photography in 1949. Ken opened his photography studio in 1956 in Yakima, WA. A highly accomplished photographer, Ken received multiple awards. His most recent was the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographers of America.

Ken was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fred and Eula Whitmire, and granddaughter Ashley Whitmire. Ken is survived by his wife, Vi Whitmore, daughter Linda Sellsted and her husband Tom Sellsted, son Ward Whitmire and his wife Diana Whitmire, son Brent Whitmire and his wife Diane Whitmire, four grandchildren: Aaron Sellsted, Haley Sutton, Hana Whitmire, and Ali Sellsted, and two great grandchildren: Avery and Dylan Sutton, and brother Len Whitmire and sister Glenna Pierson.

A funeral service will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 4105 Richey Road, Yakima, with committal service to follow at Tahoma Cemetery. A reception will follow at Ken Whitmire Associates Photography Studio, 8 N. 8th Avenue, Yakima.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the non-profit organization closest to his heart and soul, the International Photography Hall of Fame, Ken Whitmire Program & Education Fund. Checks may be made to IPHF and mailed to 3415 Olive St., St. Louis, MO 63103.
