In 1864, John and Lucinda left Illinois with their family to go to Missouri by covered wagon. They had been in Missouri only a short time when John and Lucinda became very ill with typhoid fever and died a few days apart. The children returned to Illinois in the same covered wagon that had taken them to Missouri.
