Born in Irvington, she lived in Newark before moving to Colonia in 1958. She was a former employee of INA Insurance and Kresge department store, both in Newark, and later of McDonald’s, Stern’s department store and Macy’s before retiring.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 ½ years, Martin P. Kearney, and her parents, Thomas and Carmela (Alessi) Della Torre. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Kearney and Camille Retana; a son, Martin Patrick Kearney Jr. and his husband Jeff Auer; and a grandson, Victor Retana; two brothers, Vincent Della Torre and his wife, Betty, of West Chester, Pa., and Philip Della Torre and his wife, Jean, of Jackson, and a sister, Diane Moccio, and her husband Mike of Centreville, Va., as well as nieces and nephews, and many friends.
She was a founding parishioner and active member of St. John Vianney’s Roman Catholic Church in Colonia, where she also was a member of its Altar Rosary Society and Prayer Group. She was also an avid camper, devoted friend, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15 years, as well as the American Red Cross. She was a member of the St. John Vianney Senior Citizens Club, the Colonia Senior Citizens Club and AARP Chapter 3459. She also was a devoted caregiver for her mother, Carmela.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 11, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral services will be held at 9am Saturday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home followed by a 10am. Mass at St. John Vianney’s RC Church, Colonia. Entombment to follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia
