Actress. She will be remembered for originating the role of 'Molly' in the Broadway production of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (1960 to 1962), which earned her a Tony Award. Born Tammy Lee Grimes into a well-off New England family, she studied Drama at Stephens College in Missouri. She began acting professionally on stage in Connecticut and strengthened her skills at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. Her break came when she was cast in the off-Broadway production "The Littlest Revue" (1956), which also featured Joel Grey. She received a Theatre World Award for "Look After Lulu" (1959), a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award for "Private Lives" (1970) and a Drama Desk Award nomination for "Tartuffe" (1978). Additionally, she created the role of 'Dorothy Brock' in the long running Broadway play "42nd Street" (1980 to 1989). She enjoyed a five-decade career on TV and in films. She was formerly married to actors Jeremy Slate and Christopher Plummer. Her union with Plummer produced their daughter Amanda Plummer who became a successful actress in her own right.
