Glen A. Barnes, born November 30, 1968 in Longview, WA, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on August 21, 2016.
Glen is survived by his loving mother, Sharon Hagen, brother Doug Barnes and his step-brother and sister, Doug Hagen and Karla Nolen and so many friends and family who are at a complete loss in the passing of Glen.
It seems like an impossible task to sum up the life of a person and tell the story of who they were and this is especially difficult as it applies to Glen. How much could be said about his smile, his laughter, the infectiousness of his spirit. How difficult it is to convey all that which embodied him.
Glen grew up in Renton, WA. He attended Meeker Jr High, Kentridge High School and then received his bachelor's degree in communications at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. Glen having fell in love with Bellingham decided to make his life there. He was married there and spent the majority of this adult life in Bellingham.
Glen loved playing sports and anything in the outdoors from fishing, hiking, & camping. He loved to go crabbing but he didn't like to clean them. He was frequently the life of the party and always fun and jovial. He travelled to many places in this world and experienced things that most do not have the opportunity to enjoy. Glen embraced it all and knew he was blessed.
When at a sporting event or out on the town, by the close of the evening he would know the life story of those around him as they knew his. Glen would talk to anyone. The ability to make friends and strike up a conversation so effortlessly was truly his gift.
Glen being an outgoing and dynamic person was a natural fit to his work in sales, particular outside sales. He disliked computers and desk work always preferring to be on the road visiting clients. After spending time with Glen you knew he couldn't keep still. He was always going and his mind would rarely allow him rest.
He was so open and generous in nature and a man with the biggest of hearts. He showed compassion and humility to others, especially those less fortunate. Glen was married for many years and grew as a person and was better for having spent that time with his former wife, Rian. He loved his pets and treated them as his kids. Glen and Apollo, his Great Dane, had a special bond.
It was clear in the possessions Glen left behind as he took the next step in his journey that he loved his friends so very much. He truly cherished you all. Glen kept cards, letters, photos he received and held them dear to him. The relationships he had were an accounting of his life and in that, he was very wealthy.
Glen, as with us all, had his difficulties in life and in those he continuously struggled to achieve a greater understanding of himself and his potential. He worked hard to conquer those things that troubled him and knew that although perfection is unattainable the perfect him was always a goal.
Glen was a special man and will be forever held close to our hearts and in his passing we know he is finally at peace. He was welcomed to heaven by Melvin Hagen, his loving step-father and by his father, Virgil "Ray" Barnes who recently passed away in September of 2015.
