Richard Ainsworth, 54, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2006 in Abilene. Richard was born November 29, 1952 to Edmund Robinson Ainsworth and Mildred Roberts Ainsworth, and was educated in the Marshall and Waskom public schools. After graduation in 1971 Richard attended Tyler Junior College where he was a member of the Apache Band and the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. In April 1973 he joined the Army where he later retired after 16 years of service in February of 1989.
Richards passion for sports took him all over the world. As early as age 8 he was a batboy for his cousins baseball team. While playing sports in high school and later coaching, playing and officiating baseball and basketball Richard met and mentored many young umpires and was always willing to help someone in need.
Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara Peabody Ainsworth of Abilene; he leaves two daughters, Shawn Michelle Ainsworth of Waskom and Rachel Lee Suttle and husband Matt, of Rossville, Georgia; His pride and joy were his three grandchildren, Caitlin Marie and Richard James White of Waskom and Lyra Virginia Lee Suttle of Rossville, Georgia; and sister, Ruth Ann Ainsworth of Waskom as well, as many loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and maternal grandparents, Lee and Rena Finklea Roberts.
Abilene services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in The First Assembly Of God Church on Cypress with Pastor Jim Heningar presiding under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home.
The family will recieve visitors from 6:00 to 8:O0 P.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Downs Funeral Home on Elysian Fields Road (Hwy. 31) in Marshall, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 29 in the Restland Cemetery in Waskom.
